The club was established in 1993 to provide an alternative venue, in the
northern suburbs, for model enthusiasts running electric radio
controlled cars.
10th October 1993
- the club’s first official race day at Tolosa Dam (it was snowing).
From then on, the club ran organised race meetings every
fortnight, in any available car park, using witches hats to mark out the
track.
30th July 1994
- the first race meeting at
Goodwood
Primary School (it
rained). The track markings developed from witches hats, to rope markers
then to ply boards.
2005 - Active
development of the
Goodwood
Model
Park
commenced.
2005 - Re-development of Goodwood Primary School meant the club needed to
find an alternate venue until the model park track was
ready. Racing moved to Rosetta High from October 2005 until
April 2006.
30th April 2006
was the club’s first day at the
Goodwood
Model Park
(it rained). By July 2006 the track was fully marked out and ready for
all to use, 7 days a week.
The tracks progressed from asphalt car parks and netball courts to a
purpose built hot mix surface with permanent track markings and 240v
power.
The drivers stand developed from planks and milk crates to a purpose
built box trailer to the current permanent structure.
Lap scoring developed from pen and paper to a computer with homemade
software to the current laptop computer running Alycat race management
software and AMB transponder lap scoring system.
Over the years the club has steadily grown and the race meetings evolved
into well organised days, catering for the novice right through to the
expert, with a core group of good members who can help you while you are
getting started.
In 2007, the club conducted its 1st Tasmanian State Championships for
1/10th Electric On-Road Cars. The 2 day event was a test of the club’s
ability to organise and run an event sanctioned by the national body,
under strict technical rules. With a very successful event under our
belt, the organising committee commenced work on a bigger and better
event for 2008. Competitors from
Tasmania,
Victoria,
New South Wales and Queensland attended the 2 day event. Record
entries were received and all proceeds were donated to the Glenorchy
Lions Club Charities. The Tasmanian Titles are now an annual event on
the national racing calendar.
The club holds Sunday race meetings every 2 weeks, between January and
November/December. View the calendar section to see our next race
meeting date.
The STMCC is affiliated with the Model Makers and Collectors Assoc
(MMACA) who were the driving force behind establishment of the Model Park.
The STMCC works closely with the MMACA in various activities and the
club also supports the Glenorchy Lions Club, who provided the majority
of expertise and labour to construct the facilities we enjoy each race
day. |
