The Model Park Story

The idea of a model park, where many varied types of model activities could be conducted, was originally conceived by members of the Model Makers and Collectors Association (MMACA) in the 90's. It wasn't until 2004 that the red tape was cut, approvals given and funding sourced and a start on construction could be made. The progress was slow early on, but with the support of Glenorchy City Council, Glenorchy Lions Club and the clubs affiliated with the MMACA the park started to take shape. Stage 1 consists of an amenities block, club rooms, off-road track and on-road track, complete with driver's stands and 240v power.

Officially opened in 2006 and appropriately named The Glenorchy Lions Club Model Park, we have a track as good as the best in the country.

With further development of the on-road track facilities planned, our track will be 2nd to none.

The STMCC Committee and Members would like to thank everyone involved in the project, in particular:

  • The MMACA Committee and associated member clubs for their involvement and dedication in seeing the project  go from an idea to reality

  • The Glenorchy Lions Club members, whose hard work and expertise was invaluable

  • Cunic Constructions and Managing Director Bill Wedd, for all the technical expertise, equipment, contacts and 'can do' approach
